Daniel's Artist Information Statement
MEDIUM: Photography
I have been influenced by the Ansel Adams series of books: The Camera, The Negative, and The Print. I started taking and developing my own photographs while in high school. Since my first photography course, I have essentially been self taught.
I use both large and medium format cameras. My choice of which format I use is largely driven by the following:
- The type of print I want to create.
- The convenience of a given camera. I find hiking with the large format camera in a back pack can be challenging, depending on the location.
My primary work is in black and white; on occasion I work in color. The black and white photographs are traditional prints that I complete in my darkroom. With color, I have the work professionally scanned and I do any minor corrections to it myself. After that, I have the print completed on photographic paper using a light jet printer.
The bulk of my subject matter has been landscapes. Lately I have been working on artistic still life.
I have a B.S. in Computer & Management Science, with a Masters in Information Systems. Photography provides an avenue for me to express myself outside of the technical aspects of my day job.
